Amelia’s Birth Story

April 27, 2021

A beautiful Saturday morning and I was still pregnant. Instead of sleeping the day away (which is what I wanted to do) we went to check everything off our final “to-do list” before the baby arrived. We went to get our computer fixed, buy the baby’s “coming home outfit” and went to lunch for the last time as a family of 5. We came home for a second to get reasy to go to celebrate my brother’s birthday at Longhorn Steakhouse. Needless to say, we had a busy day!

At dinner, I started having contractions but didn’t think anything about it since I had been having Braxton Hicks Contractions for weeks. But the contractions got stranger and stronger and I stopped eating (…did I mention that we were at Longhorn??)

We came home and put the girls to bed. Chris asked if we should start timing contractions. Our babies have always came quickly and with a BANG that I’ve never gone into labor by myself. After we figured out how to time them (ha ha) we realized they were 3-5 minutes apart. Being a fan of The Office…I knew we were in trouble.

We laughed, panicked, called our doctor and called Chris’ mom to come be with the kids. When my mother-in-law walked in the door I said “we may have messed up…” By then contractions were 1-3 minutes apart.

Luckily, it was passed midnight so I didn’t have to worry about sharing a birthday with my brother.

We get to the hospital and start prepping for my planned c-section 3 days earlier than expected. We wheeled into the operating room at 3:02 and Amelia Hope Barnett was born at 3:50am.
