Choosing the right location for your family photos? It’s kind of a big deal. The spot we pick sets the whole vibe—it shapes how your gallery feels and can make the difference between stiff, awkward photos and ones where everyone actually looks like themselves (you know, laughing, playing, being real).
As your Monroe family and wedding photographer, I love helping families find spots that feel natural, relaxed, and fun—even if that means driving a bit to find the perfect backdrop. Here are a few of my go-to favorites that photograph beautifully and give you tons of variety without the stress.
This park feels peaceful and tucked away—like a secret garden hiding in plain sight. You’ve got a winding path around a gorgeous lake, a gazebo, rose gardens, and these massive, dreamy trees. Oh, and there’s an Asian garden, lily pads, flowering bushes, turtles, and birds. Basically, it’s nature’s greatest hits all in one place.
This spot is perfect for families who want variety without hiking a marathon. There are little hidden corners everywhere, which means kids can explore and we can capture them being naturally curious and playful—not stiff and posed.

Freeman’s Mill is small but mighty. We’re talking about 12 acres featuring a restored 19th-century grist mill and a stunning waterfall. The walk is short and absolutely worth it, and this location gives you a unique look that stands out from your typical park photos. The textures and scenery? Gorgeous year-round, but especially magical in fall.
And here’s the parent win: there’s a rubber-padded playground nearby. Excellent motivation tool for younger kids. “Just a few more smiles, then we’ll hit the swings!” Works like a charm.
This spot is ideal for mini sessions when you want something special without a ton of walking.
McDaniel Farm Park sits just minutes from I-85 and Gwinnett Place Mall, but once you step inside, all that noise just… disappears. The land stayed in the McDaniel family from 1859 to 1999, and you can feel that history. You get open fields, rustic barns, a blacksmith shed, and this charming white farmhouse that photographs like something out of a storybook.
The paved trails make it super easy for families with little ones (stroller-friendly!), and there are bridges, tall grass, and even an old truck that kids go wild for. This location works best for full sessions because there’s so much to explore—you never feel rushed, and your gallery will have a beautiful mix of looks all from one place.

Listen, these are just a few of my favorite spots. I keep a running list of trusted locations around the area, and I’ll help you choose based on your family’s personality, your kids’ energy levels (I see you, parents of runners), and the look you’re dreaming of.
Want help choosing the perfect location for your session? I’ve got you covered. I’d absolutely love to be your family’s photographer. Let’s plan a session that feels easy, fun, and totally you.
And if you want to see what I’ve been up to lately—recent sessions, behind-the-scenes moments, maybe a dad joke or two—come hang with me on Facebook and Instagram.
